FAQ

Where are you located?

916 NW 139th Street Parkway Edmond, OK 73003

I also offer telehealth services through a HIPAA-compliant platform.

Do I have to come in person, or can I be seen via telehealth?

In-person therapy is very useful, but some circumstances may prevent us from meeting in person. When this is the case, telehealth is a useful tool.

I utilize a HIPPA-compliant platform for telehealth, via Simple Practice. I am willing to work with you to figure out the best plan forward for your circumstances.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

Typically, sessions are 50 minutes and take place once a week. In some situations, meeting two times a week may prove to be beneficial.

Initially, I encourage all clients to meet weekly. This level of frequency is important for establishing the therapeutic connection that is key to our work.

At times in couples therapy due to work or family demands, it can prove useful to extend sessions for 90 minutes. When it seems to be in the best interest of everyone, I am willing to make this happen.

How much do you charge per therapy session for out-of-network providers?

What forms of payment do you take?
Cash, Venmo, check, and all major credit cards are accepted for payment. Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments are also accepted.
Do you take insurance?

I accept Health Choice and can submit claims for clients wanting to utilize other insurance plans. If you have a provider other than Health Choice, I will be glad to provide a superbill for potential reimbursement.

If you would like to check on coverage, I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly and start by asking the following questions: Does my plan include mental health benefits? What is my deductible and has it been met? Is approval required from my primary care physician?

What is your cancellation policy?
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full fee for the scheduled session.
Is therapy confidential?

I follow all legal and professional guidelines concerning confidentiality. In general, all communications between a client and psychotherapist are confidential. No information will be disclosed without the prior written permission by the client as to what can be disclosed and to whom.

However, there are some rare exceptions to this rule that are required by law. These exceptions are outlined in my consent for treatment form and are all related to the safety of the patient and others.

It is always my goal to continue to remain respectful of clients’ rights and work collaboratively when there is a concern around safety.

Is therapy helpful?

If you are looking for a quick fix or advice, it might be more useful to contact a trusted friend. However, therapy can be exactly what you are looking for if you want to make a significant long-standing change in your own life or your relationships.

Research on the efficacy of different models and theories of therapy have discovered the single most important factor is the quality of the client/therapist relationship.

Engaging in a respectful, vulnerable, brave, and safe therapeutic relationship can be exactly what you need to gain the insight and confidence to move your life and relationships in the directions you hope to go.

What can I expect about the process of therapy?

Therapy is brave work. It is often stepping into feelings, thoughts, or experiences that we have been trying to avoid. I encourage clients to think about going to physical therapy as a parallel. When individuals go to physical therapy, they are doing so because of an old or new injury that has created chronic problems.

Typically, injured people do not leave physical therapy after utilizing the muscles around the wounded area. If their end-goals are recovery and healing, they are super excited to return.

Psychotherapy is similar; it is tough to face hurt and pain. However, when we do, not only do we get range of motion back, as is the goal with physical therapy, we often get more range back than we ever had before.

We have been acculturated to believe that only certain emotions are what we want to feel, like happiness, but making space for all emotions and being willing to be curious about all our thoughts proves to be a new level of freedom.

How long is the process of therapy?
The length of time needed really depends on you and your needs. Some clients can get what they need in 6-8 weeks, and other clients engage in more long-term work.
